Bored of your Class Sequencing?

Often as new, or old, or very old 😉 teachers we can get a bit stuck for inspiration. Going through old class sequences, trying endlessly to come up with something ‘new’ ‘exciting’ ‘fun’. It happens all the time, often when we teach ALL THE TIME, its normal to end up with your creative juices not flowing freely.

  1. Take a break, if you can. It’s a luxury I know. When was the last time you got to just practise? By yourself, moving however you please. Or maybe your own practice is down tight and you need to just take a yoga break.

  2. Find another movement practice. Go to a class, dance, gym, martial arts, you name it! Find a new way to move your body. I always find other practices and disciplines have so much to offer in the way of experiencing unfamiliar and new movements in your body. There might be something to unlock a whole new way of moving.

  3. Throw some poses in a pot and choose 2 or 3 to try and sequence together, find an interesting way to combine old poses.

  4. Choose a class focus that’s not your norm. A feeling, a season, Yama or Niyama, a person… the list goes on. Challenge yourself.

  5. Take it back to basics – include some breathwork or meditation to break up your class and encourage a different perspective on what would be a familiar class.

  6. Don’t overcomplicate it! Know your audience, put your mind into your average student and ask what they need today? As teachers we serve our students and it’s easy to forget when you have a full teaching schedule.
